THE CRADLE OF OCEAN TUNA FISH

In the South Central Coast, fishing has long been associated with coastal fishermen. In the life of the Vietnamese people in general and the people of the South Central Coast provinces in particular, since ancient times, fishing seems to be an important activity, second only to agricultural cultivation.

Marine fishing appeared earliest in the provinces of Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh since the feudal period, famous for its fishing by gourd boats. Phu Yen was the first cradle of tuna fishing in the early 90s and has become the main fishing occupation of fishermen in the South Central Coast.

In 1994, the fishing industry really started in Phu Yen by Mr. Sau Lien (Tran Van Lien), Phu Cau beach village in Ward 6, City. Tuy Hoa discovered it.

During a trip to fish for dragonflies, Mr. Sau Lien's net was caught with gold from a Taiwanese ship. When removing the net, he happened to find tuna caught in a hook, so he stole one to bring back to the research house. Dissected to see a giant hook, in the belly of the tuna, there were still fresh flying fish. For seafarers, it is a remarkable experience. So he discussed with the crew to find a way to produce gold and hooks like those of Taiwanese ships. Thanks to the improvement, the form of long line fishing for fishing has turned tuna fishing into a local tradition

After that, many places like Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa learned from experience and tuna fishing was developed and expanded to this day.
